Toys of My Childhood

Toys R Us Halloween Commercial!

This came out in 1980, which is actually before my time but it is kinda creepy! Were all Halloween costumes that terrible back then? Haha!

Cool Tools!

My little brother was OBSESSED with these. For Christmas every year he’d pretty much only ask for tools or rocks or sticks because he’d much rather be outside playing than have anything to do with indoor toys.

I remember when he got these tools he “fixed” EVERYTHING in the house. He didn’t realize that they were just toys and didn’t do anything at all. But he kept that belt on his hip and carried that tool box around like he was on top of the world.

Oh man, I remember all of the Sesame Street, PeeWee Herman, and other TV-show related reels I’d put in there and stare at for hours. I’d try to flip the images fast enough to make up “movies” and stories to, but they never quite fit.
Basically, you’d put in one of the reels like this:
and look through the eye pieces. Clicking the lever down on the side rotated the reels so you could look at all kinds of pictures.
While doing research for this post, apparently there are thousands of different reels with different sorts of images - even scientific research-related ones.
So… is the View-Master really even a toy? ;)

Alphie the Robot!

Oh. My. Goodness. I just happened to come across a picture of this robot and I squealed with delight. IT’S ALPHIE! Alphie was such a cute toy that seemed like it was so ahead of the times with it’s “guessing games.” I have no clue whatever happened to mine but I think that it would be a great little “vintage” piece to have around.

After doing some more research, it looks like they’ve kept him somewhat updated and released new models but nothing compares to this guy.

So, what toys would you like to see here on ToMC?
